I have daffodils almost ready to bloom and tulips coming up. The deer ate the snowdrops in Dec. Around town we have rhododendrons trying to bloom so rhubarb won't too far behind. Of course, if it is like a few years ago, we will get winter in Feb. and March.

Talking about canning - Seville oranges will be showing up in groceries stores to make yummy marmalade.

Vancouver Island is such a unique place. I'm jealous. Wife and I had some vacation time there split between Bamfield (awesome) and Tofino (neat). It was Spring, like March/April so we were the only tourists in Bamfield, which was awesome, and there were only a few tourists in Tofino. The Pacific ocean really moderates the Spring time weather out there on the Island.

I have been eating canned green beans, tomatoes, and jelly from the garden this past year. Tonight we had lima beans but they are frozen, as well as the corn. Always nice to open that jar, and smells and taste like you just picked them. Sure can not find that from the store!

We have a canning cabinet full of different jam. The rhubarb is the first to disappear. Everyone used to ask for it and I decided one year if everyone really wanted it they could come pick the stems themselves. One person showed up. I don't get much help picking blueberries and raspberries any more. I mostly try to pick and freeze berries whole now. Barter.
