Too bad that last smiley doesn't show that wallet is in someone else's pocket when it comes to politicians spending money.

Silly peasants. Don't you realize that there are much smarter people in Government who know what's best for you and your neighbors?? :sir:

The continuing erosion of Personal Freedoms in the name of 'the greater good' is quite disturbing indeed. There were some people who had had enough of Government over-reach about 243 years ago. Those same people would be abhorred to see what has become of their creation. The U.S. is slowly becoming exactly what the Founders had tried to prevent it from being.

Yes sir. The other thing they're doing is fear mongering people. My dad is a snowbird and only spends 6 months per year in Canada. He was thinking of just disconnecting from the grid and calling his house a recreational property since hes out in rural land. Run a generator in the summer when hes back. They told him he could disconnect but if he ever wanted to reconnect, they would have to do a full electrical inspection on his house before turning the juice back on. He asked the guy what that involved and was clearly told that they had to knock out the drywall around every switch, plug, and light. Hes lives in Ontario and I'm in Alberta. If he still has it when he passes on, I wont be able to get the place on the market fast enough. I dont want to have anything to do with that gong show ever again.

Living in California I can relate. We live in a rural county and we love everything about it except the government. Our county is especially bad when it comes to permits. I was pricing out a detached garage and the permits almost doubled the total cost of the project. Guess what happend? I didn't build it. So not only did the county not get any money but neither did the lumber yard or the hardware store. As the old saying goes, the scariest thing one could ever hear is "I'm from the government and I'm here to help."

Yes....The news up here has covered some of the stuff California bureaucrats have pulled over the years. Why is it so dammed hard for people to just let other people live their lives as they want ? We are the government and we know what's best for you and everyone else. Today's world is a sad place on a lot of levels.

Not all places are alike, we still have freedom here. I know it doesn't help you all in places that beat you down, but there are still beacons of liberty and self determination and where hard work is welcomed for self betterment.

How is that the government? The utility does the disconnect.

Given how cheap solar panels are now we should all be looking for a little more independence from the utilities

In the province of Ontario, the vast majority of people get their power from a company who's official name is Hydro One. The government owns a controlling share of it.

I'd go solar if it worked well, and some people are using it here. In the summer, it's great because we have the sunlight hours in the summer. In the winter, the days are shorter and more importantly, the sun just doesn't get that high in the sky when it is sunny. There are people here who are using solar, but the array of panels they need to have is pretty big. I dont know of anyone who's fully 'off the grid'.

In Ontario where my dad is, the snowbirds who shut their places down completely in the winter are still getting between $50 and $150 electric bills per month (service fees) for exactly 0.0kWh used. Everybody has to pay into the system so the revenue stream for the power company doesn't dry up, and that's all there is to it. Like I said before.....Canada is a very socialist country.

People say we have "free health care" and stop there. No....we dont. The cost of it comes from your income taxes. We have to either get private insurance or pay out of pocket for drugs. There are TONS of things that aren't covered when you see your doctor. There are plenty of procedures that aren't covered at all here....they're just not available or the wait lists are so long that you'd be dead before you ever got to see a specialist.....AND.....most places have rules against private clinics operating outside the system. Medical tourism is alive and well here. Plenty of people needing help have to go outside of Canada for it and pay out of pocket. Socialism isnt as great as its proponents make it out to be.

    Sorry......getting off topic here.... lol.

Good lord. I've got a family of 5 living in a 1722sq ft house. My monthly bill is between $225 and $250, including water and sewage disposal. They even charge us for rain water runoff here because a lot of it has to be pumped back to the river (flat prairie). I'd have a heart attack if I got a bill like THAT !!! Hopefully ol Doug Ford can get things a little more in line with reality for you guys.

How long til they start taxing people for using solar panels? Betcha you'll see that sooner than you think!

Do you see the trend here? I do, and it's loud and clear. I don't care which country you call home, either. When big gubment ain't getting your tax dollars, they figure out ways to rape ya. Whether it's regulating your harvested rainwater, taxing your wood usage, or taxing you for harnessing the sun's energy, they want your money......that's the sad bottom line.

    And it's bull chit.
