We will be visited with our 2nd round of house guests in a couple of days. This visit will include a child! We've been told the 8 yr old likes campfires and smores. Along with those, toasted marshmallows, roasted hot dogs, and of course "pudgie pies", are there any other treats that should be added to the list? Before any of this can take place, I'll have to build a fire pit near the shoreline. 99 has been looking forward to this visit for some time now and has reminded me of the need for a fire pit more frequently as the visit draws closer. With so many other things to do, I have told her that the pit is low on the priority list......but there will be one before the visit! Better get after it today.
Temporary firepit at the shore - 8yr old kid- keep it simple. Hot dog on a stick. S’mores. Corn on the cob would be fairly simple. Wrap in foil, toss on coals, turn every other minute or so. I'd leave the husks on to generate some steam and to buffer against really hot coals. Have fun!
a simple thing is to have some sticks and stuff and let them play and poke the fire. Always being told no sucks.
I'm sure you know what they are; only by a different name. ( "C'mon man!" Can't believe you haven't heard of them, actually!) Here's some images. Give the iron a coasting of butter (NOT margarine), slap a couple pieces of bread onto the iron, then fill with sandwich makings. A nice warm mid-day treat while taking a break during deer season. A favorite would be any flavor pie filling....tastes great!
our kids used to like toasting marshmallows - about three at a time - and then put them in a toasted hot dog bun Sort of tasted like cream puff eclairs. I suppose you could add a piece of milk chocolate bar in there as well. Someone said sparklers are fun. I agree. Just keep an eye on where they run around with them.
