Went up to our camp to get a tree this weekend. Have to say it was one of the nicest weekends in a long time. Friday night is was a few degrees below zero but dead still with the meteor shower shooting a few off every minute. I spent quite a bit of time watching it. Saturday it was in the single digits, again with no wind. Properly dressed you could spend a long time outside playing. Saturday night the snow came and we got a foot so there was plenty to play in on Sunday. I must compliment the snowplow guys there, I had my car parked at a wide pull off on the side of the road, they actually came back and knocked the plow berm away with a second pass so I wouldn't have to dig the berm out. Put some strings of lights up, 'festive holiday lights' as my kids were calling it. I'm really liking the little Yahama generator that I bought last year. So much better than burning lanterns. A little bit of a woodstack. Not all that much but it's more than enough for a few winter visits. And I always wanted to hang ornaments on some trees out in the woods, just for fun, so we had fun.
We haven't been into hunting, but I do stalk and track the animals. I have had moose walk right through the yard while we were there on more than one occasion. Not that many deer around as the woods lack edge for them to browse on. We opened up 10 acres in 2012 with patch cuts, so that ought to change as they grow back. I did see some deer tracks in there last fall. Lots of rabbits, they should benefit from the patch cuts also. We do have a pretty good brook trout stream down the road that is either feast or famine. There is a big pile of lead and copper in one small area though. Not opening up a mine just yet....
That is exactly what it is. Analog cellphones sort of worked there but since it went digital the nearest coverage is down the road and still poor. Did have a little problem with the beer last weekend though. It tended to get a bit solid if you put it down and forgot about it! Even the high test was slushing up.
Exactly what I was thinking! Nice camp you have there Paul! What kind of heater do you have in there?
We have what looks to be a clone of a Fisher Baby Bear. It has the high/low top and the stack attaches to the back. But it has a plain door and I'm not aware of any other markings. I'm not sure exactly who made it. It can heat the room up pretty well but the cabin is rather drafty and with lack of insulation under you can't get the snow melted off the floor when it is below 10 degrees.
