I have not read through the other replies but I have a 2003 Honda Foreman 450 that has been through everything. I`ve floated it down a river, mud over the handlebars, rolled a time or two, forgotten oil changes, etc. and I still use it today!! I love it. I`m still on the FACTORY battery. Only issue has been the rear differential and it cost me $500 to replace (myself). I will not buy another brand of ATV.

I just got a Cabelas plow for $199 on Black Friday special and did the debate on getting an expensive winch or cheap.... went with Harbor Freight Badlands winch on sale for $49 with a $5 mounting plate. Used it 3 times so for, only a couple inches of snow each time but the winch handles that aspect well so far.

I put a badlands hft winch on my buggy and works like a charm. I was almost surprised at the price how well it works. 50$ for a 2500lb winch plus a 5$ plate, darn good deal.

As for quads ive rode a few, a buddy had a honda recon 2wd that worked well. Hard to compare out here in sunny norcal, no snow here in the valley.

I have a '14 Can Am Outlander Max 1000XT. It all depends on what you are using it for. I use mine for work in winter and play in summer. I have almost 6,000 miles on it, bought it in late 2014 and have had no issues. Honda and Yamaha are reliable, but IMO are SEVERELY under-powered compared to the offerings from Can Am and Polaris....if you are the type who likes to rip around. I come from a moto-x background, so I like power. Honda and Yamaha are just too dang slow. I even wish mine was faster and I have done things to make it quicker than stock.

Here is my setup for winter. 5 saws, two splitting mauls, two cable pullers, straps, clevises, cables, chains, gas, bar oil, safety gear, etc........

    Bridge1.jpg Bridge2.jpg

Here it is setup this past fall for a 600 mile/4 day excursion our group did from central WI up to the tip of the Keweenaw peninsula (UP of Michigan) and back.

I have this old 1994 Polaris 400LC 4x4. About the only thing I don't like is it is a chain drive so sprockets and chains need replaceing after so much time, and i do keep the chain lubed.

I use it to drag the rutts out of my drive way in the spring.
Haul a bit of wood here at home but a couple weeks worth at deer camp, as well as deer .
I even have used it to skid my front yard deer blind back into the pines out of the way in the summer.

My Mule 4010 had an issue that I had to take to the dealer this week. One cylinder wouldn't fire. Online research found likely culprit on the Kawasaki would be a coil. service dept called me and confirmed that was the case. It is under warranty for a couple more months. He called the Kawasaki rep, who authorized the warranty work, and also change out the coil to the other cylinder as a preventative. I guess it is common enough, it was money better spent to prevent paying the dealer the labor when the second went out, or to keep customer satisfaction up, by not having the second coil die right at the expiration of the warranty.
The service manager said they had an advisory that the coils may go out on the '15, but this was their first. It has been like working without an arm, not having it to use for my wood related tasks. Might get it Saturday morning.

I also own a Yamaha Terrapro, if anyone remembers those. Has a PTO and came with different attachments. I have a rough cut and finish cut mower. Can't find any other things for it, that were available. It is great for mowing areas I wouldn't ride a tractor on, and clearing new trails.

The dealership owned one...the boss used it some at home, we used it around the shop...I don't think they ever did sell the thing...PITA to work on...safety switches everywhere! I think we had a RC mower and a tiller for it...

Actually everyone couple years I have to take it in to get the carbs cleaned to run. So many vacuum lines I won’t dare dig into it. Rock solid thing when it runs, and the mower units are Woods brand

My 94 is on the orginal belt. I am not sure how many miles it on it because the odometer quit working when it had 6289 miles on it. I am going to tear it down this summer and replace the rings as I can tell it is down on compression and power.

I suggest going with an 855D Gator. It’s not a racer, but I load the bed to the roof, and tow the splitter through the woods and it never skips a beat. Expensive, but if you need a work horse you will be happy.

Just stay off impoundments. Man here in Michigan was on Lake Sanford and drove on thin ice and went thru and drowned.
