Never had the pleasure of running a 288, but as I'm sure you can guess, now I really want to! Thanks a lot guys, now I have something else I want to buy! Someone mentioned a 372 so now I need to run the one my dad practically gave me that he got from our good friends that logged with it for a good 12 years....off to do some :tree::saw::tree:

In small wood, the 372 is likely faster. When a big saw like the 288 shines is a long bar in big wood. They don't turn the rpms but, they have more compression than a newer saw. Pick your poison. But, with long bars, a properly running 288 will hold its own with the newest saws available in their class. God Bless

1988 was first year of production for those. I have one of the early ones, according to tag it was built in 1988,week 31.

Probably the best power to weight ratio of any saw I own & one of the best in the past 30 years period. (powerhead only dry weight 16.5 pounds, will pull a 48" bar/skip chain with no problem) and next to the Mac 125C,my fav saw to run in the big stuff.Even more than the 2100CD or the other big Mac's & Homie's. :dex:

Maybe the 15 other saws you have will offer some comfort in your time of need.

Ha! The 028's are being parted out - need to change my signature - but, the remaining dirty dozen does help sooth my pain! Cheers!

Yes it was. Right away I knew it wasn't going to fly. He said right away that he'd sell it when he couldn't lift it any more and put it away. He gave me a tour of his shops and he owns an absolute ton of vintage tools and on and on - this was definitely on the do not sell list - but I think all of his stuff is on that list! Great guy though - except for when he tried to get me to vote for Hillary today . Cheers!

I've got the name and number to 1 (one), 288 lite. It runs well. The other two are gone. If anyone is interested, pm for the contact info. He is wanting to sell it. God Bless
