    Hello
I just got off the phone with Sony. My question was if I spent the money on a Blue Ray player that decodes Dolby Vision and that data is sent over HDMI to the TV then will I see the Dolby Vision enhancements on the TV. His answer was no but no technical explanation which is what I would like to have.
Oh well, I guess HDR10 will be good for now. :)

The reason I want a technical explanation is because some of the basics of TV projection are there.
In other words, the DVD or Blue Ray Player is like a projector and the TV is a screen.
So if the Blue Ray determines the intensity and colors and contrast that is displayed on the screen then the Dolby Vision enhancements should be displayed on the screen. Granted it is not so simple as a Projecter and a screen because in the case of the TV, the illuminated pixels are in the TV are controlled by the electronics in the TV for colors and intensity. However I do know that the processor to decode Dolby Vision from streaming content in Dolby Vision must be in the TV. However the Processor for decoding Dolby Vision from the HDMI input must be in the 3rd party device that is connected to it. So what happens after Dolby Vision after it is decoded before it hits the display screen?
Does it need to be further translated or is it simply displayed???

    Hello
Well, I got the DVD player in the mail today. It is the Sony UBP-x800 but with the firmware update it is the same as the UBP-X700 only $150 less and also slightly used. :) It does not say Atmos on the box but the instruction manual shows Atmos in the troubleshooting section. The instructions show how to setup the HDMI output for Bitstream to get the Atmos & DTS-X so I checked it all out and downloaded the Atmos test files from the Dolby web site and copied them to a USB stick.
    Dolby Labs Website
The DVD player can play these MP4 files or jpeg photos from a USB stick. Sure enough I could hear the Atmos sound effects! Then played the Battle scene from Last Jedi and the 4K picture and High Resolution Multi-channel Audio was superb!!
    Problem resolved, it works!!
