Met up with my wood fairy yesterday to help with an elm. Ended up with 2 loads of elm and got to try out the new lift. Hit something in the last round so I'll have to cut it out here. Today got together with Left (firewood partner) and his friend who has a mill.
Nice pics. Elm is good wood. Looks like red elm too, which isn't near as bad to split as other kinds of elm. Nice slab you killed there, any plans for it?
The slabs are not for me. No time to get into woodworking. Natures beauty and love seeing it. The elm is small leaf Siberian elm. Great wood and will split nice. Now just need to get my driveway back. It will all go uphill to back yard to get split up.
Alot more oak but not sure I'm going to take the time to mess with it. Most of the 3 foot and under is gone by others and me. Homeowner said the tree has been down for 2 years now.
Mainly because it's near impossible to find one that isn't fallen and rotted out. I got a small load of free red elm from my parents farm in the summer, easy splitting stuff and most of it was air dried. carpenter ants had killed it off. Burned nice and hot.
We've seen that grain before and it is beautiful. Makes great benches and table tops. I could easily picture cabinets made with that and they would be beautiful.
Thanks for all the complements. Glad you all liked the pictures. The more I look at the elm I wonder if it's Siberian or harder to find Red? The camera really brings out the red in it and the white oak. After posting I was looking through the pictures when I found the spirit of the oak in this slab.
Myself and Lefty got the elm split up yesterday. Today I started stacking it. 8" gap from the fence and then 12" or so between the two rows. Hope it dries ok.
