I have some nearly 2 year old split and stacked fruitless mulberry. I am impressed with this wood. Although it is a fast growing hybrid tree, it burns hot and holds coals very well. It is also a good wood to use on the smoker, although for smoking, I am more impressed with almond, and have not used any mulberry lately, the almond is so good, I don't want to use anything else right now.
Yep, definitely a good variety to have in your stacks. I like it also in the smoker too, just because I've got abundance of it right now.
I try to keep the stove door closed until it is down to ashes. It can make impressive fireworks when new air hits outgassing splits. Have seen bits pop and fly from the stove only to explode again once they are free of the stove.
Ya I really like mulberry in the stove, got a few pallets of it for this year and a 1/2 cord for two years from now .
That and apple are the most explosive that I have come by. My kids were in for a surprise the time they tried to cook marshmallows on my smoker when there was some unconsumed mulberry
Yea, I read a lot about the popping with mulberry. In my experience, it does pop a bit, but less than pine. Makes for a more entertaining fire. I read it is similar to apple in the smoker. I don't have any apple to know. Started last night's fire around 9 pm. Still have embers at 7:40 am today.
My favourite, have a bunch stockpiled for next winter and the following one, but very little for this year. Use it in the smoker a lot.
I am a big mulberry fan too.it burns really nice and puts on a very very cool light & fireworks show. The biggest reason is actually how pretty it looks in the wood pile.
Never burnt any but if I ever run across some you can rest assured I will. I am an equal opportunity wood burner. If it's wood and it's dry I will burn it
Here's a cool fireworks show I had going on a reload tonight, I don't know what kind of wood it was unfortunately http://s100.photobucket.com/user/signal73/media/Mobile Uploads/trimqx8pNI_zps4f745bc1.mp4.html
