Naw, just stick to burning (melting) a aluminum can every now and then for chimney maintenance!!! I mean, why go up on the roof to clean/inspect it, right?
Make sure you at least put the batteries in negative side down so you can get some positive results up the flue.
except for the few nasty chemicals that may have gone up the flue, batteries back then weren't exactly sealed so probably would not have had a risk of popping now you want a pop in a fireplace toss in an old deodorant chlorofluorocarbons propellant aerosol can
Serious note , we had a huge fire at work and the cause was a recycled battery bin . Don't save them in drawers as they corrode onto each other they short circuit and up she went . All mine are now wrapped in tape and put well away from buildings .
