We just got back from a trip to Kentucky that ended in a few days in Mammoth Cave National Park. We stayed in the campground, which I was really impressed with even if it didn't have any hookups for our RV. We had turkeys that visited us in the morning, deer late afternoon and bats in the early evening. The forest was impressive with a nice variety of trees, large white oaks, hickory, elm and ash. The cave itself is of course large, with over 400 miles of interconnecting caves. There were a couple of interesting white oaks, one with a burl that wrapped around most of the trunk, and another one had a bulge completely around the trunk, that I'm not sure what it was.
That is cool. I wouldve taken pics too. Im a tent camper and wouldve loved to see the animals. Seems the only critters we encounter are the raccoons trying to take food or raid the cooler! You might be a wood hoarder if: you take more pics of trees than your significant other!
LOL, Raccoons, they are mischievous. We used to be tent campers, so it's just an adjustment of mindset. As far as burning wood goes, I'm a late bloomer, I didn't start burning till last year, and I collected my first unseasoned wood this season. I was fortunate to be able to pick and choose what trees to cut down, so now I have a whole new perspective on it. I'm seeing trees everywhere I go. Yes, I'm now a confessed hoarder, but I'm still taking pictures of my better half!
