Hey even an 80% success rate is still pretty darn good!

It's been so warm this year I wouldn't be surprised if it was quite a bit lower.

When you check in a moose, the state of Maine takes a tooth to age the herd/harvest. Takes a couple of months to get the results back.

This guy turned out to be 5.5 years old. :D

308/3006 dang near the same recoil and everything else ballistics wise. 308 allows for a shorter action so some weight savings in that department, ditto for the cartridges weight wise ( course it is almost nothing to speak for 10 rnds. , but when humping a full case then you will notice it.

Here’s the mount I had done.

And here’s the scapula (shoulder bone) I buried after the hunt last fall. Amazing what the bugs & worms can do in just a few short months. I’ll use it this fall to simulate antlers raking against the brush while calling.

If I ever bury a bone again, I’ll mark the spot a LOT better! I think I sunk the spade like 20 times before I finally found it! :hair:

What a beautiful animal.Congratulations. Moose is one animal that I would like to hunt someday. You are very fortunate to live in an area with the opportunity to hunt them.

Oh heck no. Only 2500 permits in the state for this year. My college roommate got one though and I’ll be helping him.

They keep dropping the #'s. It was 3,200 back when I lived in The County. Now they are over the counter, and for whatever zone you want. I just spent over a hour doing all the hunt reports for the tags that the wife and I had. Thought I was done and she told me she has more in her truck. Its a tough problem to have!

They go up some years and down others. Say what you want about Maine IFW, but I think this is one area that they’re doing a nice job with.
