Bought 25' bulk Oregon chain from Northern Tool and a Harbor Freight break\spinner almost 2 weeks ago. Finally got a chance to make a chain today. Instructions aren't the greatest it took an hour to get it to work. But the second one took less than 10 minutes. Most of that was counting out the chain drivers. Well worth it. Not counting the price of the tool it will save about $10/chain. If I get the 100 foot roll it will save even more. Now I feel like an advanced wood cutter. Lol
A breaker is what let me know I needed glasses. I bought a new bit and still couldn’t hit center. Bent and frigged up a bunch of links before figuring out I needed glasses. The Oregon quick reference chain scale will lessen the pain of counting drivers.
I did not even try it without my bifocals. Even then I had to move a work light shooting sideways onto the punch. Mick Jagger said it best "What drag it is getting old"
I jumped on that band wagon earlier this year. I found 8 loops of brand new 105dl chain. I didn't need another bar to use them so instead, I resized. Found an old school breaker/spinner. It is much much cheaper to buy by the roll.
