Water will likely find its way along each one of those stringer and under that grace or under those stringers. But what do I know being a woodland critter?
Hi Thanks. That dark color grace was also absorbing the heat and making the room hot! Probably use the room for pellet stove stuff. I have a beer fridge in the shed. I will see how it goes. I will have to save my money to finish the inside. Just bare bones now but weather tight.
There are 2 layers of Grace under the stringers. So we will see. I have a lot less in the roof of my house and it does not leak !
This deck is almost as good as ours! They do admit the contact adhesive for EDPM is no good! The EDPM does not reflect heat! Interesting how they used Grace over the stringers. See article http://www.aconcordcarpenter.com/roof-deck.html They installed ¾” CDX plywood over the joists with construction adhesive and coated decking screws. I like the Advantech much better!
Advantech Description Unmatched Moisture Resistance Designed for a longer exposure during construction, backed by a 500-day weather resistance guarantee. So unlike OSB and plywood, AdvanTech® sheathing is engineered to resist swelling, cupping and delamination Today's final step! ! ! - This is the best we can do folks! The 7 tubes of Premium Henrys with the lifetime guarantee or what is known as Black Jack flashing sealer went on today. As a test, every drop of condensation from the air conditioner rolled down the roof and jumped off! See pics
Don how new are the deck joists? I'd worry about adhesion with newer PT joists, looks like a nice install - only thing that would give you pure waterproof guarantee long term would've been SS L flashing from the roof decking up sides of joist and then install the water membrane over top of joists
The new joists tops are all covered with Grace ice and water shield and sit on top of 2 layers of Grace I & W and are bolted to the interior joists which lye under the Advantech. No water leaks when it rains.
looks good.! when checking for leaks I use garden hose. After I reflashed brick chimney second time it still leaked my grace ice and water had pin holes in it. only got quarter cup of water a year but saw it in ceiling stains. I brought it back and showed salesman of course they gave me a new one before put ceiling back up took hose up sprayer on jet no leaks!
Thanks for your comments. That is why I put polyglass over the Grace. Just to protect the Grace. The polyglass also seals up like the Grace with no nails.
I have built a sunroom with a 1" over 12' slope. I thought I would DIY the roof and have put multiple layers of waterproofings and sheeting but always had leaks. I also have a layer of Ice & Water shield and a layer of Blueskin, but the leaks still occured. The leaks didn't stop until I had the ceiling spray-foam insulated, which in my mind is only a temporary fix. The only product I have found that is guaranteed to be waterproof is Duradek (click here). Unfortunately, Duradek cannot be applied to pressure treated wood and my roof is PT plywood.
Hello The Advantech sheathing is more expensive than PT plywood and maybe is better. It does interlock. Does the PT plywood interlock with tounge and grooves? Is blue skin just for concrete? Where does it leak? How soon did it start leaking?
First off, your build looks great! Hope it serves you well. This is from the Blueskin website: "The membrane is specifically designed for self-adhering to a prepared substrate, and provides a high-performance waterproofing barrier." Don, the last layer is Grace Ice and Water shield and it is not UV stable, so splits an cracks are appearing.
