A question for you folks. Eventually I am going to put up a barn as well to store equipment in. My tractor and bobcat. If I go with a pole barn. How long can you expect the poles to last? I know there are different variables there, like drainage and the like. But in general. What types of poles do most use? Wouldn't it be best to go with 6x6 P.T.? What would cost of large poles be compared to say nice straight, long 6x6 P.T.?
BrowningBAR. How much have you decided on your building yet? Or are you in the very early decisions stage?
Gasifier, take a look at these.... https://www.permacolumn.com/ The telephone poles in that building I have pictured were set in the ground around 1974, maybe a couple years earlier, don't recall, but that's around 40 years ago, and I don't think they're going anywhere any time soon. I'm not sure I like the permacolumn idea but hey, it's something to think about.
I call Photoshop! Barns are far to clean, you must have forgot to photoshop in some clutter No, really, beautiful stuff there man, looks like a little slice of paradise to me. (envy emoticon)
yes, way too clean a barn. Lovely Cessna. Our first airplane was a black and white 150. Building the hanger meant that the roof had to be real high. Putting the roof on was hard as both Campinspecter and I don't like heights when the structure can be seen through. Miss those flying days and sailing days when the weather is nice. I take it that there is a field in the backyard that doubles as an airstrip?
The hot set up are the laminated ones. Laminated posts are much less prone to rotting. Standard poles such as 6" X 6" treated only have the treatment absorbed maybe an 1.5" in, leaving the post to rot from the inside out. Laminated poles in the case of a 6 x 6 are individually treated 2 x 6" lumber that allows the treatment to penetrate the entire board. I just came from the Frame Builders show in TN and the laminated posts are being marketed for some time now as the way to go for longevity. The guys I talked with say it the way to go.
