Around here, doe licenses are easy to get 2+/yr. Buck tags are 1/yr, and we have antler restrictions of 3 pts on one side here (4 in some parts of PA), so this basically means all the 1.5 yr old buck get a pass.
About 10 minutes before I took this buck, I was at full-draw on an even bigger buck at 20 yds for several minutes. Unfortunately, he stopped behind some brush, just 1-2 steps short of getting into a clear shooting lane. That was crazy.
This guy got a pass the first day of rifle. Came in to my grunt call and made a scrape on the far side of the cedar. Sounded like a monster till he stepped out. Horn stretcher wouldn't work on the brow point.
Thanks guys. By far the biggest buck I’ve ever had come to me let alone put on the ground. Truth be told though I much rather eat does than older bucks
Here's one I got during rifle season this year. I think I missed him on the first day of rifle season, chasing a doe. But I got him 3 or 4 days later. At least I think it was the same buck.
Very nice deer. I love the opportunity at a nice buck, but totally agree the on the does being the best for the table! Congratulations!
It’s not about the size of the antlers. It’s the quality and goals of a successful hunt and what it means to you. I’ve been shooting deer for almost forty years and still haven’t found a good recipe for antlers
That's the worst. I've had that happen a few times. Trying to let the bow down after a long hold and trying not to spook the buck is hard!!
mike bayerl Last year I was at full draw on this guy for what seemed like forever when he stopped in some brush. Then he changed directions and I had to let down, turn around to the other side of the tree and draw again. Talk about gettin the heart pumpin! I swear i had a 5 minute adrenaline dump.
