Glad Home Depot took care of you. I got my county line on January 1 and had to buy the log catcher separately at a different store and installed it yesterday and it made splitting so much easier

Thanks for all the legwork FreedomFamilyFarms ! I'll most likely be buying a splitter this spring. The only splitter I've used (other than walt's awesome custom-made beast) has been Mwalsh9152's Countyline. I found it easy to operate, but I'm still thinking about an electric splitter. I'd like to get one that I could pull into the back yard myself.

I think that for your setup it might be best to set it and forget it. Have a processing area in your backyard. Somewhere in the back left corner probably. That's what I'm going to be doing come spring when I can finally get the area I want it cleaned up.

I think my husband will insist on storing it in the garage. It's handy to split in the driveway, but I've got about 2 cord of rounds in the back yard right now....

Not a bad idea Tim, but I think once FreedomFamilyFarms gets a few cords thru the new Champion splitter, the forum would be better served by a full review in the “Reviews” section-

The only time mine has ever been under cover is when it was in your driveway. Maybe make a lean to off the side of your shed to keep it under?

Just ordered one this morning. $5 on eBay shipped from China. Should be able to install it in a month when it gets here

I just cover mine with a tarp, keep it in the backyard most of the time. I did keep it in the garage for a short spell but I rather keep my car in there.
I do take the tongue off it, so it's hard for any thieves to take it away. No chains, no hitch makes it a little trickier to pull out of the yard.
Also my yard is very wet most of the year so they would probably get stuck if they did try and bring a vehicle back there. Basically they would have to pull it by hand to the front of the house.

And yes I added an hour meter to mine before I ever used it. It's a very wonderful thing to have and I picked mine up off ebay as well. It is a tach/hour meter.

Yeah! I think mine was about the same $. Easy installation, get ya some "heavy duty" 3M double sided stick tape with the foam in-between, the stuff they put on the meter will not grab long and it'll fall off, doesn't have good vibration qualities.

I like where you placed that, I used velcro so I could remove easily and stuck it on the air filter housing.

By all means, take your splitter (when you get it) in back and finish your splitting there! Then store it in the garage where it will be happy and dry. When, in the future, you bring fresh rounds or have logs dropped off at your famous front yard storage tree, do your splitting there and then you move splits, instead of rounds, to the back for stacking. I hope I have your current scheme correct!

There is a guy in Poland that builds a pretty impressive electric splitter; shipping costs may be a problem though.
