Nice work! Good looking haul for sure. Which side of the bargaining unit are you on, labor or management? Private or public? Been lots going on in WI that's affected us cheeseheads recently

Thanks. I’m a lead man on the labor side, but hourly rather than management. It’s a public company. I’m not supposed to discuss or speculate publicly while still in negotiations but seeing as it’s already in the news, I can say that we’re going to vote on the newest contract proposal this Tuesday, thankfully.

Got it, those are stressful times. I'm an exec board spot for a large labor union, firewood hoarding has become my therapy! Hope the vote goes the way you want it to, in the meantime get out there and enjoy firewooding.

All split and waiting to be stacked. Probably enough for two or three winters’ worth if I’m only burning it during the real cold snaps. It may get sold eventually for all I know; only time will tell. I try not to get too attached to anything in the stacks these days.

I try not to get attached to mine otherwise i have separation anxiety when it sells!!! :loco:

Amazing how thick the bark is. You gonna let it sit so the bark falls off or stack and cover right away?

I'm hoping to start stacking it tomorrow. Can't really have piles sitting on the ground too long, even if it is locust. The boss would not approve

Thats my only pet peeve against big green BL..the thick bark. Glad you went back.

Yeah this time of year the bark loosens up pretty quick and we know how bad it smells. Some of mine was like that and it was only a month old.

That’s a wrap on this particular score. Just about 2/3 cord of black locust. All that’s left to do is secure a tarp to the top of the makeshift pallet roof. It’s a pretty solid rack between the 45 degree braces and 8’ pallet roof tying everything in end to end.

Underneath the black industrial mats are all the red maple splits. I can add to this short pile later this summer if I get more red maple.

The little bit of pin oak from the beginning of this thread. I still have to find a permanent spot for it, but for now it can sit where it’s at.

A little less than a cord all said and done, so not bad for hoarding during my off-season. That brings me to about 14 cords total at the house, which is a good number for me.

I broke protocol again  There was some roadside tree trimming near my work recently and the wood was pushed down a bank and left behind. Honey locust, a species I’ve only scored once before. Heavy and dense, which makes it excellent firewood. As per my usual quick scrounges, there’s not much there, the end cuts are crooked and it’s at weird lengths, but I’ll take whatever HL I can get regardless.

Good reason to break protocol. I would've. IMO its the heaviest wood. Bucked some this afternoon and couldn't get over how heavy a 12" round was.

One year later and here I am breaking my own rules again. A lot was being cleared here in town and there was a sign at the road for free wood. Lots of silver/Norway maple, black locust and a few other things. I was only interested in a few small scraps. Just enough to scratch the itch. I grabbed a few rounds of black cherry, a little long dead barkless black locust, and one silver maple round. The plastic pallet was a bonus I found last night sticking out of a dumpster. You know how the hoarder mind works

Im kinda the same way, but think my cut off temp is higher. Full sun kills me when its hot. Shade I can tolerate hot weather better. I used to sell shaded jobs for the Summer when I could.

Since losing a bunch of weight this year, the heat doesn't bother me as much. Go figure. I actually feel almost chilly when it's 65 and breezy out now  I think from now on if the right score pops up in the warm weather, I'll go for it. I used to HATE working like a dog in the heat, but now kind of view it as a boost for the calorie burning.

A thinner Eric!!! Great excuse for Summer hoarding.

G4U on the weight loss.:salute: I should do the same as I'm a bit thick around the middle.:emb: Cabin fever didn't help.

Yeah I think back to my younger days and roofing FT. Dreaded the Summer. I don't know how I survived those hot days. Its a big mental game to keep going in the heat. Work ten minutes full bore then fifteen minute break, repeat. Don't miss it.
