Butcher, how about making some longer 2x4's so your cross piece is higher? That would make it much easier when putting the splits into the trough.

Keep about a weeks worth in the garage with a 6'×4' rack. Load it weekly with the tractor or my wheelbarrow or cart behind the four wheeler. Depends on my mood. 8×20 woodshed out back and another 4×10 rack right.outside the garage I have to fill for if we get a lot of snow or ice.

My make shift woodshed holds almost two chords, the rest is covered on top with tarps and stays nice and dry.
I have 2, 6foot long single row racks, (with roofs and covered with tarps, the ends are left uncovered) on the back deck just outside of the door, , when needed I use my buggy to bring the wood up and fill them back up, if there is going to be a big snowstorm I have a rack in the house that will hold about 4 days worth of wood

I thought about making the gaps wider. My concern was moisture from driving rain/snow in the winter. This rack will go on my deck to replace the wood racks inside. That would cut down on the wood needed to be brought in, and I could keep a smaller rack inside with a day or two wood.

Do you agree that I should keep the gaps closer for wood coming directly from outside into the house?

The gaps won't make much of a difference, just surface moisture. I would do what looks and works best. Wood on the rack won't be drying a whole lot as I read it, nor will it be getting much wetter.

If your wood is already seasoned, a bit of surface moisture won't hurt it much. Sometimes my front stack on the porch gets a little rain, if it's windy out. It's still burnable, but I might get a little "hissing" for a short time if I try to burn it right away after that. If I wait a day or two, it's bone dry again. Usually I just pull some splits from the next row in, if the outside row gets a little wet.

This years wood is less than seasoned. The logs have been sitting for a year now, but only a month split for the oldest splits. Yes I'm a bad person. I'm getting another 3-5 cords this season to get ahead.

Well, we all gotta start somewhere. I'm trying to get caught up to the three year plan myself. My strategy is to burn quick drying stuff like maple and ash, or dry standing dead for the next couple years, so I can sit on the harder stuff until its properly seasoned.

No problem suffering through the video and I did watch the first one too. My only point was with a larger opening at the start it would just make it easier for the one putting the wood in the trough. It is a great idea and I agree; only trying to make it a bit easier.

    You're doing good !
That you realize your wood isn't the best, shows you understand the wood burning process pretty well.
    And
Getting some wood now, so that you'll have better seasoned stuff next year
You'll be way more prepared next year.

Take time, but well worth the effort ! :)

Update - Finally had time today to knock the rest of the logs out along with splitting it. My cousin came down to pickup the log splitter and gave me a hand.

Once I was done with the log pile, I started back to working on the rack for the deck. The frame is built, and I am working on the floor of the rack. It's a bit tedious at this point. Once I get to putting on the walls, it will go much faster. The roof is already planned out. Just need to attach. My plan is to put the rack in place, then put the roof on. Hopefully tomorrow the rack will be on the deck and filled before I head to an MLS soccer playoff game.
