Breaking in a Stihl 500i, any tips?

I have one single experience with the M-Tronic and oils causing problems. Castrol GO mineral at 32:1 caused an off idle stumble in my ms201. In a manually adjusted carb saw, and my 1/5 scale buggy, I ran out of adjustment on the high needle and still couldn't get them to 4 stroke. All 32- 35cc engines. I switched them to my normal 25:1 Dominator and the hesitation was gone in the 201 and the other manual tuned engines acted like they should after switching. So certain oils / ratios definitely can throw a computer saw as well as a manual carb outside of the max adjustment capabilities. I've read belray is another that can cause this.

 

That sounds like it's a tad lean based on the description.

 

It’s mtronic so I’m not sure. Pretty sure I’ve experienced it with the 261 too. Seems like there is a pause before the chip catches on/up that I let go of the trigger. Chains not spinning, but a sec before engine speed drops to idle.

 

I'll pay attention to my two M-Tronic saws to see if they do anything similar. I don't recall them doing it but I'll look for it.

If you guys want to make your head hurt, search Mercury Verado making oil and Yamaha SHO making oil…. If you search deep and hard enough, you will find Mercury’s solution. Granted these are 4 strokes, but the bore material and rings are the same. Couple that with the fact that outboards don’t get hot complicates ring seating.

Errbody has their own way of breaking in from run it like ya stole it to my drawn out process. Whatever works for ya.

 

Probably why Stihl gave up and omitted it from the manual. How to dispose of it is more important.

 

Odd that yours doesn't say anything and my 2021 model year saw does.
