Dont let anything I have said deter you.

I used my 390 for 8 years and was very happy with it. I still am. I just got a few 70+cc saws now :)

I need to tear it back down and reseal the cylinder as I did not use the correct sealant And I fear an air leak. Dont have one yet but I worry.

With a sharp chain it really screams it will smoke that 250

But if u want to trade tell them straight up you have buyers remorse and want 441.

They start the saws to tune them anyway so thats not a deal breaker...they can tell if you put it in wood or not...unless you have Dex clean it for you and you really put it on wood, then they couldnt tell :)

    I will say one thing...

I was told this by a dear friend and it makes total sense..

The heart wants, what the heart wants. Period.

If you feel you settled and really wanted the 441? Then you should probably get the 441. Your gonna think about it every time you run that saw.

The one plus to the 441, is when your tired of it?? You can send it to a known builder and get a woods port done and have a much happier saw.

This is MasterMech 441 from our GTG this Spring.. These saws are nasty.

You did do a Muff mod? Your punctuation isn't clear?

I would buy a new muffler.

Can you post a pic of what you did?

    Is the screen still intact?

I doubt the muffler is the same? And if they know you modified the saw? They likely won't believe that you didn't run it.

I don't want this blame on my shoulders! :)

You spent dig money on that saw? If it has original everything and you didn't run it? They may take it back. Tell them you didn't cut a thing and you want to buy a 441 instead? ?

thanks dexter We got a couple different dealers I will call the one I didnt buy the saw off of and see how fast I can get a muffler and call the other dealer and ask about the trade out. A couple of years ago I wanted to down size weed eaters I had a 110 and sold it. Bought a 55 and hated it a boy at work told me the 56 had all the feathcers of the 110 ect ect and he told me to clean it up and bring it back so maybe this will work. Thank goodness It gas been raining here and I ant put it in a tree yet. I think the price gap is round 400 dollars? From what I read it is that much more of a saw do you think?

First off, make sure you really want to go through with this. Your only gonna be talking about a few seconds on each cut, between a 391 and 441. Where the 441 would shine, is putting a 28" or a 32" bar on it (Stock it would still pull a 32" Skip. Ported it will take a 32" with full comp).

I got my 441 for $810. My dealer is pretty good to me, but he is still making some money on the saw.

Haggle with him a little. It's like buying a car, or an ATV. The price isn't fixed. Just cause the 441C-M says $949, don't mean you have to pay $949. That is just what the Manufacturer recommend (MSRP).

I paid $680 for my 362C-M. And after its been ported, I have no doubt that it would spank a stock 441. Even stock, the 362C-M is an impressive saw.. It won't pull a 32" full comp, but I know it will do a 28"

    Griz,

That's a tough spot. Good advise on the difference has been given. Not much to add there since I don't own or have ran either one.

I just looked up the difference between the two. I mean, you've handled all your wood with a 250 so far. It's just a tough call. But here's food for thought?

But what size of wood (16"/24"/30"+)and how you gather it can help determine what you need.

I would hate to see you have buyers remorse, but also would hate to see you spend extra money that's not necessary for you application. But only you can make that decision.

Good luck and keep us posted. Will try to you help you all we can.

Good points !! Thanks clemson and chevy man. Me and my buddy cut round 75 loads last year me with a 250 and him with a 290. No problems lol and now Im woundering if a 391 is big enough lol The logger mechanic that done my muffler mods also put the 250 on a tach and turned it up. Iv not put it in a tree yet because of so much overtime at work but it sounds like a diffent saw. He said he would turn up the 390 when I broke it in. Best I can tell the weight is about the same from 390 to 441 is that right ? With Bud and weiser not helping me make decistions today and yal are I think I will be more than fine with the 390 and 400 plus dollars in my pocket. Yall the best!!

Griz, I have a 441mag and wouldn't trade it for the world… But I only use it for the real big stuff I get my hands on. 80% of the time I got the 250 running. If you really want one, well get out the $$$, At least your buddies Bud and Weiser will make you feel good you bought it! ;)…. Mr. Miller doesn't help either:drunk:

Dex has sound advice. With a muffler modd that 391 will be closer to the 441 still won't be the same saw but as Dex said bucking a whole tree you may be a minute faster?

If u keep the 391 your $400 richer.

Call and be honest to the dealer about remorse and what would it take to get you into a 441. Dont buy the muffler yet and get it at another dealer. If you decide to trade up tell them you can't get there for a week or so due to overtime. That will allow your muffler to come in.

I can see certain dealers balking at the idea but a good dealer that wants go keep you happy and a return customer should do it.

If your original dealer says no and you really want a 441 try another dealer...just make sure its not the muffler dealer. Explain the situation and that they will become your "dealer" if they can make the trade.

If your doing 20" and under? Then the 391 and 441 will be similar.

If you want bigger than 20"? Then the 441 would be ideal.

But, because you have yet to even run the 391? I don't think you'll be disappointed in it. It's a 64 cc machine. Which is much larger than the 250. The 250 is like a 45 cc saw. You have around 30 cc's more displacement in the 391.

Here is my 2¢, most dealers consider a saw to be used as soon as it walks out the door. Unless you immediately turned around and came back in and said I think I'd rather have a 441, they will certainly take it on trade for the 441 but they are going to try to steal it from you by offering you wholesale value for your saw against retail for the 441.

You have nothing to lose by trying the I didn't run it ploy, my humble advice; run the fuggin saw.
