Aside from firewood (duh!), one of my other passions is bow hunting for deer. I love being outdoors and love, love, love venison. My family loves it as well and it doesn't hurt that my wife is an excellent cook. We've been in an unusually warm weather streak here, with temps in the mid 70's. That, and the fact that where I hunt still has standing corn has made this season a challenge thus far. Switched to crossbow this weekend. It is nice to get away to the woods and fields and forget the world for a while.
Bow hunting was my favorite thing for many years, then I got married and had children. Still love it I just don't have time anymore like I used to. Archery is a great thing for anyone to get into.
Yesterday while sitting in the stand, the wind blew and the leaves started to really come down all around. I was in a leaf storm. The woods had that wonderful smell of fall and I thought how awesome it is to be sitting there. Wish it was a little cooler...well a lot cooler. I love archery hunting. Each time I'm out, I see something, even if its not a deer. I was out of it for a little for the same reasons as Boogeyman, but have gotten back into it. It's even better now that I share it with my oldest son. One of my favorite times to archery hunt is our 2nd season, usually after Christmas. I've enjoyed hunting then since I was a teen. Just something about being in the woods when its so cold and quiet. Add snow to the mix and it's hard to beat. Granted, my success in 2nd season has'nt been record shattering, but I don't care.
Been out bow hunting for the first time in about 20 years (with a bow that is 28 years old!). Was able to procure permission to hunt some farmland!!! Kids now have bows and while they are not ready to shoot deer with them, they went out with me for the first time this year. We have seen 4 different bucks (but no does) at one stand in three sits. The kids are excited
