Wow sounds like you dodged a bullet there glad to hear you weren't hurt. I'm guessing that you were able to loosen the terminals and not get shocked because you didn't touch anything else and also there was no load (you said you had turned the pumps off) but no matter what the good Lord was looking out for you today.

I would assume new underwear is in order...it would be for me. Nothing evacuates the bowels like a 480 arc flash.

Normally, yeah, you would have peeled me off the ceiling, I barely jumped today...dunno why, I am usually very cautious and kinda jumpy when working in electrical panels, especially if it is not completely dead (and when are they ever completely dead )
I think my caution meter got a hard reset today.
Sounds like a few of you work with electric too...I just ask that the next time you are getting ready to do something stoopid in a panel that you just remember this thread and think "Don't be like brenn d" :emb:

Thought about that, maybe I should have said I'm glad your here to write your post. Many years ago I had 65 Amps of -60vdc go to ground while I was swapping to a new bus bar. I had 10kv gloves on and was on a 15kv mat. It welded my Kline's to the rack. Scared the everloving crap out of me. I'm glad your OK.

We did an arc-flash class several years back when I worked in the maintenance department at work....it was INSANE watching some of the demonstration videos.....it's unreal just how fast, powerful, amd devestating that arc blast can be.....

We had a maintenance tech try to hang an safety sign and drilled into a panel on the other side of the wall. It was only 240 but mushroomed the drill bit so bad you wouldn't believe it. 480 is scary stuff.

If you think 480 is scary look at the voltage before the transformers

Glad to hear that you survived unscathed. I saw a guy I worked with get bit just turning off a MCC breaker on 480. He had 3rd degree burns to his hand because the fire ball came out of the small gap on the closed breaker door to get him.

With the concrete issue I have seen primary lay on the ground and burn on more than 1 occasion. Somewhere at the house I have a piece of "glass" that was concrete at one time. Glad to hear your ok, 480 and pretty much any three phase is a nasty animal.
