Doing a little cleaning at the property....up where I'd like to have another pond someday. 3-5 years I hope. All Ash and Maple in the area.....the Ash look terrible now anyhow...so its a multi purpose project. My body doesn't cooperate anymore....so what the skid steer couldnt push over.....my family stepped up to cut what was left ...thank goodness for that ! All the stumps will get popped when Dad's mini excavator comes home. It works slick ! Cleared where the finished pond is now that way quite a few years ago ! How's she look ?
I really like ponds when you have a big enough piece of property to have one. Is there fish in the pond?
Oh I hear ya ! I could have done one big pond.....but it would have been alot of dirt moving at one time....and I would have had to build way up on a few sides. Im about 12 ft deep on the inlet end...slowly ramping up to 4ft on the outlet side . I've got a few fish...but mostly turtles and frogs lol ! I know a fella up the road that does fish stocking professionally..... And I hope this coming year I can have him out to stock it correctly ! Also have the type of clay that doesn't settle good...so I'll have to use alum or something to keep it settled out and clear . especially since I'll be muddying up the waters on the inlet side with my new construction project
If I would have thought a little more ahead....I would have done the pond where its being cleared now....first ! But hey..no biggie ! My dream is to have a waterfall coming out of upper pond dam into the lower pond..then a waterfall out of that..and off the property it goes ! I hope I live long enough for all my dreams ! Already have one done Works good...but learned a few tips of what and what not to do next time lol ! Luckily...my Dad has a good stock pile of materials for his son to scavenge through
I like the idea of the waterfalls connecting the ponds. It is a cool sound in the summer. You won't have to keep re-circulating the water to keep the levels up?
Looks really nice! Do you ever have ducks landing in the pond? Its amazing how just a few ducks can transport many fish eggs in their feet. Good luck on the project.
It's more of a drainage water run off to keep what use to be the fields dry . so when we get rain....or alot of snaw thaw....she really flows ! So I was just gonna let nature do it when it flows...but......u give me and idea about a pump/ recirculation set-up . hmmm....thanks
Hey thanks !! I've had a few ducks...and even a Green Heron or two at times ! I was amazed when I found lil fishies swimmung around...probably from the ducks as u mentioned ! I thanked the ducks by never letting anyone in to shoot them lol !
HoneyFuzz, I wondered if you were leaving the stumps so high was to make it easier to get the root out and it appears that is why. But I am also wondering why you always use the humboldt wedge or face cut?
Because I'm not very smart lol ! For some reason I like it on the smaller stuff...I have no technical explanation
