Yesterday we spent all day on the lake. It was 83° sunny, and only a super slight wind. Today, it's supposed to get to 91°, with storms moving in tonight supposedly. We might go to the beach near is on lake Michigan today. Just walking to the beach, not taking the boat.
Took a Half day at work today. We were in the lake with friends by noon. About 4:30 the local lake property owners started coming out. We took off about 5 PM. We talked with our boating friends about plans for tomorrow, 4th of July. We're on the fence about boating tomorrow. That said, they invited us to watch the local fireworks with them and others a couple of towns away. We're all in on that It would be a bit hectic to get out on our local lake we like to go to because they have fireworks tomorrow nigh at the lake and so many try to get in the lake. Also, it's supposed to rain tomorrow morning. I'm thinking skip boating tomorrow and then Saturday hitting the lake again. And tomorrow maybe just going to a movie and then head to our favorite Mexican restaurant for dinner and margaritas. Then to fireworks.
Lake day tomorrow again.... We were going to go to lake Winnebago, but it's supposed to be windier up north a little bit further. Back to our local lake then.
Was it good? Any comparison to mako, thresher or salmon sharks? Every couple years we’ll get one of these three, excellent eating. 68” should’ve been a good fight. Owl
Commercial pots generally get one float here. There’s eight or nine floats all wrapped up there. That is gonna be a full on macrame nightmare to figure out. Quick run to check and pull pots, since the wind will keep us away for probably a few weeks. Found some kayakers that were happy to share with us. Owl
Looks good! We don’t have any real crab fishery here except Jonah crab and to be honest I have never had the chance to try them.
Yes, ma’am, Dungies. I wire in the bigger escape rings when I build my pots, everything up to about 6 1/4" can get out. I’ve heard of Jonah crab but never seen one. Supposedly they are close to dungeness at the table. I have had blue crab before, they’re OK, but not nearly as good as dungies and a whole lot smaller. Owl
Jonah crabs are different than blues. I had some Jonah crab meat the last time I was Maine. It was really good. It's funny that they were never really used for food recently. They were bycatch.
Playin hookie tomorrow and going fishing! Headed south to try to get out of the sharks. The tug is a drug!
