Yup... choppy water and speed can do that.

Couple of Lingcod in the boat from the May 1 opener.:) These blue green colored fish seem to be common where we fish. Have not been able to get out since due to wind or other responsibilities. :(

I love ling cod. It's delicious. Some of the best fish I've ever had was "rockfish" from the north Pacific.

    Finally. Getting a bigger boat.
    IMG_20240528_171254.jpg
Larson 248 LXI with under 200 hrs on the Volvo Penta fuel injected 5.7 in it. Taking the day off tomorrow and driving up to Rochester Minnesota and back to get it from the dealer. This should suit lake Michigan as well as work on the inland lakes, despite it being a little on the large side for the of the smaller lakes.

One of your recent posts had a pic of your truck with the boat in the background. I wanted to ask but about it but didn’t want to come off as a dink if things weren’t good. Congrats on the new boat. Let the good times roll!

Yeah, that's my 78 correct craft Martinique, which is essentially a ski nautique, just with a different top hull. That's my baby and I'm re gel coating it getting new / straightened running gear and putting new carpeting or maybe sea deck flooring it. I've had it over 20 years, and am getting it back to snuff. I reupholstered it 20 years ago and that's all still good. I'm restoring the original correct craft trailer too after the escort brand non original trailer, but the trailer it had when I bought it, lost it's axle.

This boat will be able to take out on lake Michigan, or any of the other great lakes. We live 3 miles from lake Michigan and the only boat I've ever taken on that water were jet skis. The nautique has a very low freeboard, and you can't take it on the lake Michigan, and if you did your be in due a with, and possibly sinking ride unless it was glass smooth out and we all know the great lakes can rear up in an instant. The Edmund Fitzgerald was a cautionary tale, just like the armistice day storm on the Mississippi River.

Thanks, and yeah. No problem. It weighs about what any of the full loads of locust I've hauled. :D. It's about a third of tow rating on my truck.:p

Yup I remember when it came off the trailer. No bueno. Glad you are working to get in ship shape. I can tell you stories about some rough chit in the North Atlantic. There was one day in the mouth of the Merrimack river I wasn’t certain we would get back to the truck. Not down playing the Great Lakes but the open ocean can be mean and scary real quick like.

What's crazy is that the great lakes are actually more dangerous than the oceans. It has to do with the duration of the waves.

Yeah I have a new driveshaft for it that the machinists at work made for me. Next is getting the rudder, prop strut, and prop straightened. Once it gets warmer outside I can get to the little bit of fiberglass and then gel coat work.

Some people have old cars they mess around with, I have an old ski boat with a 351w in it.

Lings are my favorite, followed by salmon and halibut about even. The lings in the inner sound are one of the few fish that the WA fisheries people have managed well. The sound used to be full of various rockfish but they allowed commercial bottom draggers to destroy the fishery then closed it because they were "endangered".

It's very clean for an 05. Not even 200 hrs. I need to do a few things on it, there's a little surface rust on the lower braces of the trailer, but it's black and it's just surface rust, so it'll be easy to crawl under it and touch that up. I'll need a spare tire, and I'll add a subwoofer to it. I see the head unit is a nice basically new Clarion with 8 preamp outputs. It's only got 4 upgraded JBL 6.5" speakers in it for now but it sounds pretty good for just what it has.
