Cause he's full of chite is my guess. Probably dropped 3 massive rounds in, and had to keep the door cracked to make it burn wildly, blowing all the heat up the stack

I still don't understand how he brags up the $4000 price tag, and yet won't install a fan on it. If stove manufacturers though aiming a Walmart fan at the stove spread heat as well as one blowing through the inner/outer jacket, they wouldn't bother making them available would they?

The install isn't up to code no matter what he does.(has a hood above the stove tied into the hvac used to circulate the heat) I followed the thread he made and no matter what the stove wasn't going to satisfy him. He wanted/needed a stove that would give him a sun burn from across the room. It's installed in a non-insulated basement and the chimney runs up through the house. My guess is the old stove blew so much heat up the chimney it warmed up the masonry enough to warm the upper levels. He just couldn't get a load in the king to burn fast enough to get him the heat he needed. I want to say a load was burning for 8-12 hrs on high, torching 4 + cubic feet of wood that fast and it's still not enough is heat the joint is a no win situation. It sounded like he needed to burn it in 4 hrs to provide enough heat. :jaw:

He had a steel door with no fans. I get a bunch of heat through the glass on my stove, my guess is that would be cut down with a steel door instead of glass. The fans would also allow him to burn a load faster since it scrubs some heat off the stove allowing the t-stat to open more. While the king is a big bad stove I just don't think it was the right stove for him. He needed huge heat output not long burn times.

A big ole smoke dragon that he could get red hot on all sides is what he needs.

rdust just explained it! in basement non insulated concrete has low r value and basically heats the dirt by foundation

He also was using 6" pipe on the king which is illegal as well.

800-850 stove top temps were most likely right on top of the cat and towards the flue exit only. Not the whole thing like on a non-cat since he was running the thing wide open.

His house was set up very well for a wood furnace. The wood he was burning was cut either that day or within the month (I just remember that it was not seasoned CSS) and I have serious doubts in his abilities to measure MC properly. We all know how much burn time suffers and heat output suffers when trying to burn wet wood.

That's exactly what I had in mind! Either this guy has a huge hole in his roof or something but that's enough temp from what I see around here that is too hot for average stoves! Mine has a limit at 700F. This isn't counting the internal combustion temps for this dude.

I remember this thread on Hearth. Good times. I had a lengthy PM conversation with the guy and he shared pics of the stove and flue connection and it left a lot to be desired. He basically had the crappiest connection and chimney you could ask for.

It was already going south for him yet he's bellowing about it as if he knew what he was doing. Sunk a lot of money into it but what's weird is it sounds like he really didn't truly want to fix the problem or start over and do it all right in the first place. You wouldn't happen to know about the pictures? Show a few?

I checked my inbox and they weren't there. I believe he put them in his thread there, I just can't remember the name. I'd have to search my post history... If I get some time I'll look but won't be real soon.
