The bottoman pic on mine an the top are from the same tree it's just been split. Sent from my SM-S906L using Tapatalk
Wood will rot if it stays wet for long periods of time, left in a pile it doesn't have much of a chance to dry at all, if green it's gonna rot in a hurry. I've had 5 and 6 inch rounds set outside in a row for 4 or 5 years with no rot but it had no bark.
I'm with Sawdog ... I'm thinking this is Hedge (bark, wood color, and split condition). Thorns is a good piece of the puzzle too.. I'm not aware of a horny Mulberry, but a horny Hedge yes... Been scrapped and bitten bye a few....
Looks to be persimmon, especially if had the smell. Wonderful eating fruit and Deer love them... I've only had one score of that, but it was pretty dried when I got it. But the bark and wood looked very similar to that.
The picture of the split says its hedge. It's thorny - hedge It sparks and cracks when burnt - hedge It's very hard - hedge Splits are gnarly looking - hedge Heart wood often stained very dark - hedge I've looked and looked at this and even went out to the stacks and looked and the pictures match what I have as hedge. regardless, it will burn good and I suppose that's all that matters.
I'm not able to catagorize this one as dry or other. I was scouting this afternoon for tomorrow's harvest and came across this witness. Very cool. Hope you can see the path from the upper left.
Oh yeah. You may even find a strip of that bark laying near the tree in a long strand if it wasn't struck too long ago
There were a hand full of staves. There was one right at the base but the first one I came across was 30' away. I didn't put 2 and 2 together until I walked up to this guy.
