Black Birch museum (not firewood)

I stumbled upon an area with multiple old black birch trees. My understanding is the more roughed up looking the bark the older the tree. I’m guessing I was the older of them was upwards of 200 yrs old.

    Very cool Steve. I love stopping to admire an old growth tree like that. I have a BB in my woods with a 24"+ DBH.

    That’s a big one. I have a one in the wood in back of me about that size maybe a little bigger. A relatively younger tree as well.

    Very nice patch of woods there. Judging by that old stone wall, I’ll bet those birches were among the first cohort of trees to colonize that area when agriculture was abandoned, and reverted back to forest.
