Got the Hearth mortar in today. I think I'm gona go ahead and install the stove and mortar the wall later. Want I get the stove going here soon. So now my question is with the flagstone hearth it has rather rough edges and isn't perfectly square due to the shape of the stone. I'm thinking about taking a concrete saw and cutting it square to make for a cleaner look and easier flooring install. Planning on laying rough sawn hickory as flooring. What do you think? Cut it or leave it?

For a "finished" look? Cut it. For the "natural" look? Leave it.

I'd probably leave it as is. But, its all in what you and the little lady want and the look your after.

    Either way, it looks beautiful.

I'd leave it Swags, especially w/the rough sawn hickory flooring. I think the rough, irregular flagstone is more rustic and will match better in that combination (if that is the look you're after).

Looks good! I'd square it up, I hate things not uniform... But that's just me.

In about 5 more minutes, he won't. It will be turned way down, windows will be open and the misses will be shedding.. :)

(Edit: He already turned it down. And added splits. So shedding will continue for a few more minutes. Until they move to a cooler room)
