Kiddo has confirmed she hears both crows and ravens. Then yesterday morning one flew over her on the trampoline and she id'd the wedge raven tail (opposed the square crow tail). So, we have both. And I did read the ravens will do things by themselves but crows like a group. This explains the solo ones I always see by themselves on a fence post or telephone pole.
Anyone care to guess on the hawk or falcon? Red Tails are common here, but a Peregrin falcon also comes to mind. A part time neighbor climbed a pole and hung this perch a few years ago. A bird raises lil ones there every year since.
Could be a falcon, possibly an osprey. Any large bodies of water nearby? Osprey are often found around lakes
Definitely not a red tail. I'd lean towards osprey given the water, but it's hard to tell from the distance shot.
We took down our suet feeders last week and put one hummingbird feeder up. Hummer shows up next day even though we hadnt seen any. This male downy woodpecker likes the nectar water.
About a week ago we set out our Oriole feeder with grape jelly in the cups. It only took a few days before the coons found it again. Now we have to take the jelly cups in at night and put them out in the morning.
I'm not feeding the hummers this year because I might be doing some traveling so could not tend feeders right. I'll stop feeding other birds when we run out of seed. May as well use it up.
Ms. buZZsaw see's a strange bird at the feeder a few years back and calls me over to see. Rose breasted grossbeak. They showed up a few weeks ago.
It depends on how hot it gets. Also if it gets any sun only 2 or 3 days between fresh. Otherwise we rarely go over 4 days without putting out fresh.
Those also have a pretty song. The females showed up about a week after the males and that is normal. Males usually show here the first week of May; usually the 4th or 5th.
Seen our first hummingbird a couple of days ago. Have the feeder down, now need to run it through the dishwasher. Also need to make some syrup up.
