    That would be the only legal way unless you hired a carpenter or electrician or something like that. I hired an electrician a few years ago and was not aware of something until it was too late. Code required him to install fire alarms (even though we had several) that hook into the breaker box. Extra cost that I did not need or want...

    From my quick read, it looked like only for those selling their homes. I am guessing it would come to light during home inspection time (assuming one is done as part of the sales agreement).
