Wood Stove Design Challenge: Woodstock Wins the Grand Prize!

After a lot of hard work from a dedicated team, Woodstock Soapstone's Ideal Steel Hybrid was awarded the Grand Prize at the Wood Stove Design Challenge!

Congratulations to Tom Morrissey and the crew at Woodstock Soapstone. The new stove is a winner already and it hasn't even hit the market yet! But it is a beautiful stove for sure. More pictures can be seen on the blog:

The ornery one and myself were blessed to be a small part of this and we had a wonderful time in Washington DC. We originally had no plans on going to this just because of where it was being held but with some friendly prodding from Tom, we just had to go even if it meant giving up deer season.

We were blessed when we met many folks from the forums and especially our meeting with Brian when he came to pick up his Ideal Steel beta stove. Unfortunately, time did not allow for much visiting or partying but at least we got to meet this good man.

I'll be posting more on this later but just wanted to get in the congratulations to Tom.

When we got home, we found that our area also was hit by some of the bad storms. Fortunately not as hard as they did in Illinois but we had no electricity when we got home. So, we were a bit late getting out of DC, drove 600+ miles then found we had some work to do when we got home. It is also more difficult doing these things after dark and the cold wind was still blowing pretty stiff.

First thing was to fire up the stove. The Fireview has always got a bad rap saying it heats up slow. Not so! Although there had been no heat in the house, we had it to 70 by the time we went to bed (more like passed out). So the generator got a big workout and so did we but we are happy to be home again.

Bet you guys didn't even notice we were gone! :p :MM:

The ornery one did not want her pictures on the Internet. Ha! We got her anyway, and she also had a great time out there.

For sure Machria. Woodstock is a very small company and they know they have to do good work and have good service to survive. The best part is that they also have fun doing this!
