How soon will you process it@MikeyB? There has to be at least 3 cord in that tree. What is the smallest diameter round they left?
Yep, it takes a crazy dude to make a climber! Pics of blacksmith a few weeks back.... And one of me a month ago.......
Scotty Overkill im am so envious...you get paid to climb trees and use a chain saw at the same time. God that looks like fun! Are you strictly a climber or do you do bucket work too?
Not sure I'd hang the "crazy" moniker on ya, but I'd have a helluva time trying to do what you do. Not sure that I could do it unless I had no other option. It's always interesting to find what one can do if the need arises.
We do some bucket work, but I enjoy climbing. We do this on the side, I'm actually an electrician. I do this stuff for stress relief, because I enjoy it so much!
I’m hoping to start splitting the manageable rounds tomorrow if there’s no rain, I’m thinking the smallest is about 4”. By the looks of it all I’m guessing between 3-4 full cords, I’ll be sure to calculate when I’m split and stacked. Anyone know the deal with Black Oak? I’m guessing it’s close to red and white oak as far as drying and BTU’s, but I’m guessing...
I was a full time roofing contractor til a few years ago. I know the feeling of being up in the air and able to see and experience what few other people can. Its an amazing feeling for sure. I had thought about getting into doing tree work when my mid life crisis hit ten years ago, but didnt. I do some chain saw work on the side now, nothing major, but its great to make some money doing what you enjoy. black oak is very similar to red oak MikeyB
Yes great pictures. It's essentially a red oak. Plan on 3 or more years to dry once split and stacked. That's a ton of wood. How much did you burn a year?
I burn about a cord or so a year with my fireplace, now that I have a big fire pit I’ll be burning more.
Started the process of splitting and stacking this morning, did a solid face cord before it started to rain.
I’m outside having a cold beer and thinking for these large rounds I might have to borrow Campinspecter’s Splitter,,, lol
Got a full cord split from last Weekend and today’s work. Pics are from today’s work out. Glad the rain stopped early. Turned out to be a beautiful day today
Way to go MikeyB It did turn out nice here too, was drizzly and foggy this morning but cleared around noon. Wasnt able to work on any wood today. How much have you processsed percentage wise?
Was able to get a bit more split and stacked today. I’m thinking I’m close to between 30-40% c/s/s- so far. If I don’t give rounds away I’m going to have about 3 full cords of firewood...
woke up and body was feeling old today. Stacked a mound of beech splits this morning, maybe 1/2 hour....sunny and warm. Had a surprise 30th birthday party to attend after lunch. Got home later, had eaten too much at party and it started to drizzle and then rain. Have to finish making firewood firewood job tomorrow. No wood for me though. Im posting new thread now.
