Red oak. See the faint light colored radial lines on the end grain? Those are found on all oak species.

Sheesh you think I would have known better after splitting red oak the last two days! I think the darker color and size are what threw me. Thanks for the tip, I had forgot to check that first.

 

Wow lots of new stuff today. Looks like more silver maple, ash and pine. Let me know if I am overlooking anything cool

dammIT! Left the hackberry in the garage too long. Is this green stuff mold or oxidization? Guessing it wouldn’t hurt if it was to be firewood but it may have ruined my plans to smoke with it

 

First time ive ever heard of using hackberry for smoking wood.

Yes. Definitely white oak species, I’m saying burr oak for now based on what’s in your area. It’s not regular white, that I’m certain of.
