Studied this for a bit. The color threw me. Im saying ash. Normally not that color inside but had some rot somewhere in the log. If you look at the round in the center you can see some of the rot. The fresh wear on the bark from woodpeckers.
Looks like hackberry? Very little experience with it and more "warty" than usual. Calling JimBear & Sandhillbilly.
Ive never cut any and have only seen a hand full in my lifetime. That clover is cool though. Slice a cookie off and save it.
That could be box elder (a variety of maple AKA as maple ash) based on the bark. Not sure on the "owls eye" log. Your thoughts Eric?
I think Brad’s got it with Boxelder AKA Manitoba maple, ash leaf maple. Not something I’d go gaga over trying to score mountains of. I’d rate it on par with silver maple.
