Some tension in these ones. Got two 8ft four inchers out of it but I’m not sure if I can make 4x4s out of this crazy pith slab. What happens if you have a centered pith in a 4x4 then it wanders out the side a foot or two down the board?
Dung beetle larvae! Just kidding. One of the seemingly endless creepy crawlies that like to eat wood!
I looked at that picture the big problem with milling black locust is the nature of that species is it grows fast and the pith or center of the tree is all over the place I have milled such crooked logs of BL and got straight boards then I milled a arrow straight log and they went all over the place it was tough to get good boards that is one of the reasons you can get top money for it you have to saw a lot of logs to get what you need it just did not seem to react like other wood JB
Next target: White oak (I think) blowdown. Tried to get back there but the mosquitos started carrying me away.
