I let my oak as well as most of my wood sit stacked 1 year as rounds, with one summer of hot full sun. Then I split it. Usually then the bark falls off when splitting a lot of species of wood anyways. I separate the scrap bark and compost it. I am not much for I loose bark in my wood pile as it comes off over time and creates clutter. I guess some people burn loose bark. I don't much.
I've tried burning just bark that had fallen off splits in the stacks so in theory it should be just as well seasoned as the splits it was on and it burned like crap. So I waste little time with it. It's supposed to have similar BTU to the sap and heartwood . Maybe if you burn it right. I peeled the bark off a couple of pine logs that a friend wanted to carve or do some artistic thing with and they were gonna sit for a while. They peeled pretty easy, otherwise I wouldn't have bothered.
