I am going to be installing new door and glass gaskets on my stove in the next week or two also.I cleaned my stove and chimney in the spring, but I did not install my gaskets. It will probably be cold when I get them installed.Time gets by before a person realizes it.

What about your glass gasket Dennis? I changed mine out last year after 5 years and it looked like it was due.

I haven't changed it but thinking about it. There is one small spot that is showing just a hint of ash but it is very small and not on the edge. It looks okay so think I'll wait. Besides, I remember going all around it when the fire was going and I could not detect any leaks nor smell. I do have the gasket though in case we do have to change it out.

I cleaned the flue and cap today. About 2 cups of light fluffy brown ash.

I will replace the two flat gaskets where the secondary assembly sits on the inner side burn plates.

I need to work on the lead flashing around both chimeys. Squirrels were gnawing away at it.

I had a mason rebuild the two chimneys from the roof line up a few years ago. New flue tile, brick and reglet flashing. Not too happy about this.

Sealed up the lead flashing yesterday. The top mortar cap on both chimneys had the beginning of hairline cracks. I do not want water penetrating down and freezing in it. I took care of both caps this afternoon.

That being new brick and all, it would be in your best interest to treat with a water proof sealant, Not Thompson though as that stuff doesn't last. Most can be sprayed with a garden sprayer dosen't take long and that will help stop the hairline stuff. Needs too be done before it gets too cold though. I can tell stories about new brick and old and water wicking problems.

Good idea. I've used Conproco in the past. I'll see what is available at the stone yard. Time is right to get it done.

Both chimneys mortar caps were weathered. I don't know if it was from the elements or corrosion as one being the nat gas flue, the other the wood stove.

Thanks for the advice. These little things can add up to a tear down and some cash out the door.

Finished both chimneys with sealer 2 coats drying in the afternoon sun. I started with the brush and went right to the pump sprayer. Better coverage and a time saver.
