Beautiful. How did you get the gloss on your exhaust pipe? I have only seen matte heat paint? Also the shield behind your stove looks attractive with easy maintenance. Is it easier than cement board and tile, and I really don't like grout. Can you tell what it is so I can find some? (aluminum, sheet metal etc,?) Or can that get too hot if darling toddler bumps it?

    thank you

Thanks for the compliment......the pipe was corn-rated pipe in galvanized finish. I pickled the outer surface, and then sprayed it with 2 coats of Rust-Oleum satin hi heat paint....I got mine at Wal-Mart.

As for the heat shield, it actually was there when I had a wood stove. It isn't necessary for a pellet stove, but I decided to just leave it in place. It standard sheet steel painted with matte heat paint, and mounted with screws and heat insulators behind it. Check sheet metal supply houses.

Can you explain? I get the idea but I don't understand enough to replicate :) what is corn rated pipe and what is pickled? I am ordering pre made black pipe, and would love my exhaust pipe to have the gloss yours does!! Should I go for the galvanized instead?

Also, if you saw a post with a gaudy road construction steel sign, we still have it ..... we have used high temp spray paint in the past, though our contractor thinks "heat board" will be sufficient.

In my old home we installed cement board behind and below both stoves. Do I need cement board for my new pellet stove? Or with the "Heat Board" be sufficient?

The Black pipe you are buying will already be ready to paint. No need to pickle it. So you would just need to buy the Rust-Oleum Satin paint that imacman mentioned, or Stove Bright in a Satin, Glossy, or Metallic color. But typically, pre-painted venting is more expensive. So you could save yourself a couple bucks if you did it yourself and just bought galvanized?

As for the Durock or heat board? If you are buying a Hearth board for the stove (pre made)? Then that should be plenty for the pellet stove. Pellet stoves only need "ember" protection (non combustible) for the floor. Where some wood stoves have an "R value" to protect against the heat as well.

Before you go and buy any paint, I would wait until you get the stove and install it. In my experience, Simpson and Selkirk's pre-painted vent looks good enough. Also, if you paint the vent before you get the stove? They may not "match" in color. So you will either be repainting the pipe, painting the stove to match, or just installing it as is, and being unhappy with the results.

Unless you want to save a few bucks and buy galvanized? Then I would buy the Paint that SBI recommended to touch up the stove, so it's a good match.

What is you target date to have this in by? I can't wait to hear your review. The Eco -65 is a Big stove with a great bottom feed design. :dex:

Just in case you, or anyone else, buys regular galvanized pipe and want to paint it, pickling is necessary to make the paint stick. It's basically washing down the exterior surface with white vinegar. It removes any oils that are present, and does a bit of etching of the metal to help the paint adhere. I let it sit on the metal for about 15 minutes and then rinsed with clean water.

My pipe had 5 winters on it and no signs of any paint flaking off.

Corn rated pipe is made to withstand the corrosive effects of burning corn. Since the Eco-65 isn't rated to burn any corn, it's not needed, and will save you some $$.

But it is rated to burn bark, switchgrass, and other pelletized products. Some of which are probably corrosive?

The Drolet, Osburn, and Enerzone pellet stoves have 2 blowers for combustion. One is called the combustion blower. It's before the pot, it blows air up through the burn pot holes. And the other is the exhaust blower, and it sucks the air through the system (majority of stoves only have this blower)

This allows the user to burn a very dirty, high ash pellet :)

Both of my blowers can be adjusted up or down 10% to fine tune each pellet. Whether it's a quality pellet, or a piece of crap :dex:

    I love my Enerzone! !

Good point, Dex. I think if WildWest has any plans to burn any of those fuels, she should give Drolet and/or the pipe manufacturer a call and inquire on what to use.

Thanks @DexterDay ! We ended up buying the black pipe already painted. Dear Husband will pick up some black heat paint in town for the pieces and parts that are galvanized silver. Our target day to be installed is with in a week or so! As soon as the piping arrives and dear husband can steal away from work :) !! I can function whether the construction is done or not if the pellet stove is up and running :)

@RckyMtnHigh , I found a clean out tee that goes from 3" Drolet to new 4" exhaust! (one of the items that will be painted as its galvanized). Since the pipe is already black he will also paint the storm collar and vent cap. We ended up with "DSA" flashing for roof metal roofs, I studied the link to the Duravent PelletPro you sent me in a previous link, thank you. AND I found the 500* silicon! Had to buy a 6 pack but everything to install should be here soon :rootintootin:

Good to hear, I can't wait to see it installed. You are going to be very happy with that stove, just keep it clean. A clean stove is a happy stove no matter who makes it :) You'll be able to tell pretty quickly if you slack off a little, most of my service calls are literally just cleaning a stove. Then they pay me $179 bucks. Don't be that customer lol. I'm sure there are a few on this site that could walk you through VERY specific cleaning practices and how often they should be done etc. on THAT exact stove.

Happy burning, that unit will serve you well for a good 20 years so long as they make parts and you take care of it.
