Yep those early Poulans were great saws. I have 4 of the PP 335's. Great power in a small package. Your saws look brand new. Also the orange color and chain brake means they were made in Canada.
They seemed to be popular around my area here in BC. More so than the CTC Mastercraft branded yellow 3400's, it seems. I don't mind the mag covers and flags. Still light. It is the other way around out in Ontario by the sounds of things, according to Tim (fossil). Lots of CTC branded and not so many Canadian model 3000's. I am fortunate to find them lightly used.
Personal favorite is Husky 350 circa '98. Of course the 346 offers some performance and magnesium, but the old 350 would hang with my buddy's MS310 in medium wood. It's my favorite because I used it for better part of 15 years without major breakdown. I still have it, but bought a 550 couple years ago. The 350 is enjoying semi-retired status. Well earned!
You twisted my arm. And Baileys sent me a flier for $50 off, almost simultaneously. 18" bar and shipping, $529.95. Best deal I've seen and I've been shopping them for a while.
This saw ^^^^ with a new chain and a full tank of gas and a downed oak is almost better than sex I said almost
You'll have to report back after running it! I really like mine but it needs a little tlc at the moment.
I have a 350 with a 346NE p/c, I matched the riser to the cylinder, 357 carb and intake setup, mesh air filter, and muffler mod. It is a good running saw and sounds real nasty. I thought it would tear up a MS261. The other week I ran it against a stock 261 and the 261 tore it up pretty good. The 350 is like a Honda, high revving and no torque. The 261 is like a V8, tons of torque for its size but it still screams.
I've run most of the 50 cc saws out there for a living. At one time or other. Not the 261 or 550 but I would be surprised if they ended up with more scale at the end of the day than a 1977 vintage 031 or an 1982 032 AVEQ. Or the 50 cc Electrolux made Partner from that era. I never had any problems with the 026+260 Stihl's I had. Great little saws. I prefer the 242 Husky to all the above. For my needs anyway. Little light sabres. If I need to cut over 10" diameter wood. I have bigger saws. The little 251 Stihl is a nice little saw. Nothing amazing performance wise , but it does a great job.
Those old 031's are built like tanks. They really have the torque to pull. I have an MS250. They are very underrated. It was only a second or two slower than my 026 in a 20 second cut. 10'' wood or smaller is also what I like to cut with a 50cc saw.
What in the world do you have going on with that 346? It looks like a carb for an 090! I can't tell what the other hoses and stuff are. Could please elaborate on the goings on with that saw, you have my interest peaked!
REDMAX must be an eastcoast thing, i have never seen one in person or even saw one advertised in the west. Is a redmax a husqvarna clone? Those old poulan 335 are the real deal, i have witnessed one tearing it up in some pine very impressive. I think the updated version 261 is a beast! I own a 550 so i know what thats about. 026 is a tough saw ive seen lots of them that look horrible but stihl run hard.
Can't believe it took 5 posts to get there. It isn't even debatable IMO. All other choices are nonsense. I seen no need to read anymore posts. Carry on.
