Went to the woods and got another trailer load of saw logs today. I have 11 saw logs @ the mill now. Gotta get with the program on the saw !
Took a couple pics this morning. I am liking the way I have it set up so far. Not crazy about the slab place tho.
Slabs are a bit in the way I would think? I assume you'll burn those in due time? Those hubs/axle hanging out there gotta be a real pain the legs I would think. If the mill's in it's long term parking I'd remove it too. Nice set up though, looks like it'll serve you well.
Ground the band blade for the first time since I started milling . It was still cutting ok but. Like a chain saw, it creeps up on ya. The leading side log cleanup/debarking I've been doing with my little 251 Stihl . 16" bar semi chisel , low kickback chain . Is working Great at keeping the band blade sharp on the mill. It doesn't take too long. About 5 or 6 minutes per log. The power feed and return is whacky for some reason. It's wide open fast on the feed. Even with the metering valve almost closed. So I push feed . Pull the slab or board, plank, timber off . Then go back to the controls and raise and return the headrig. Then drop it down for the next cut and start pushing again. It's slower than just flippin levers. But I'm a one man show so it's faster than wishing I had some lumber to build with. The Dremil tool tooth grinding doesn't take too long . 20 minutes or so. Maybe less. It's not as good as a nice expensive grinder setup. But it works better than many would think. As I'm not doing this for a living. Not being the peak of speed and efficiency doesn't bother me. Keeping cost down is where it's at for me.
