It's been bottled for 2 weeks now. I thought I'd check it out. For my first round, I'm happy with it. It's the KC wheat clone. Color looks good, flavor needs lemon ( which the original does to), and a pretty fresh after breath.
Went out to split some wood today and decided to check on the Hop garden. Centennials and MT. Hoods made it through the winter and have poked their heads out of the ground. Had to change plans and "plant" some poles and bailing twine for them to climb. Priorities...
Just started my next brew. Raspberry wheat, another clone of the KC boulevard company. This one will use Raspberry extract for the flavor...
Any cider makers on board? I'm thinking of making a batch of hard cider, this fall, and "hopping" it up with whatever I end up with left for hops. Recipes? Good/Bad idea?...
Heavens sake, why would you want to hop a cider? Traditional ciders are nothing anymore complicated than yeast and fresh pressed apple cider preferably made from a mixture of apples. Now some folks would add some spices such as cinnamon or ginger. You are heading for a fruit beer or ale. Every time I've made a hard cider it has turned out differently because the mixture of apples pressed at the orchard has been different. Make certain the cider you use hasn't been chemically preserved (fermentation may be very difficult to accomplish if at all).
I make a few jugs of hard cider every year. I press my own cider and add some sugar and some champagne yeast. I'm a hack, at best. But it tastes pretty not bad and has ethanol in it...so I must be doing something right.
That is a fair definition of what you want. I might do a batch this fall, I didn't last year because I had enough ethanol laden beverages for fair spell. Can't do too much right now as I can't handle a full fermenter yet, a few more weeks. ETA: Up first is another batch of mead.
My palate needs further refining before I get too scientific about it...which will probably be never. Until that day, I'll keep on keeping on making hillbilly apple liquor.
My hops are getting tall. It is amazing how fast they grow. They usually top out just short of the roof so they don't have much more to go.
I understand. I've always been a more straight forward cider drinker. Just wanted to mix things up a bit.
By all means mix it up, be careful when/if you mix up the heat to go with those hops and cider, you can wind up with a drink that tries to jell on you because of the heated pectin etc in the mixture. Pectic enzyme may be needed.
Thanks Smokey, I'll "Bear" that in mind. I'm still a good 4 or 5 months away from usable hops or apples, anyway.
Just put Raspberry Purée in my wheat beer.... First time doing this, trying an experiment. I've got one Raspberry wheat that will be bottled with extract and this one with the purée. I'm hoping that I can get a feeling for which style I like better.
Just starting a Boulavard 80 acre clone. It's a Hoppy beer. It's going to include 5 different hops and some dry hopping....... This will fill my last Carboy..... ...
