I don't worry about them, just keep splitting and stacking. Late last spring, not long after moving into our new place, I was splitting some rounds the previous owner had left. My youngest daughter, 6 years old at the time, wanted to help split and stack. So I would lift the log onto the splitter and she would run the lever on the splitter. She was having a big time until we hit a few logs absolutely full of big black ants. They where everywhere including all over us. Needless to say she wasn't so excited about it after that, and I have yet to get her back out there.... I ask her every time I go out, hoping to get my helper back eventually.
Great story. Thats funny how things will skeeve kids out! If i was six again id probably not want to help although when i was that age i couldnt wait to help dad cut wood.
Thats cool about the mockingbird, your little sidekick. Wonder what happened to him? Did he song up a storm as they can be quite vocal?
I think there are stihl a couple of pieces of wood in my chicken pen from doing that. guess i outta get them in the woodpile.
One of the girls who helps me doesn’t lik the bugs either, but was really intrigued when some splits showed different kinds of life within. Plenty of questions. Moving and stacking and finding insects was a different matter. I could hear them screeching across the pasture. I stack and let the birds have at them.
