Don't own a pellet burner or want to, but cellar dweller does have the best ring to it!

As I understand it, the cleaning maintenance of a pellet stove is every few weeks? As opposed to an annual clean with dry wood wood stove? And there is no radiant heat to speak of?
I have turned down offers of free pellet stoves in the past based on the reviews of the previous owners. But now you've got me thinking....

Depends on the stove. On my Accentra F/S,scrape the burn pot every day or 2,takes about 1 min. After a ton of pellets,I clean--pull and empty ash pan, remove 3 inner plates(quick latch),brush inside while vacuuming, reverse hose on vac and blow out exhaust,as stack is short.Takes one beer. Also, stove is cast, and has fireplace mode, room fan does not run but still puts out quite a bit of heat.

After a day of work, especially this time of year, I will build a fire and let the bones get warm and remove the shivers I got during the day from being too cold, too windy, too wet, or whatever. I'm thinking that I'm not the only one on that note.
You have a good amount of radiant heat from the pellet stove then? How does it compare to a conventional wood stove's output? Not the btu rating, just the radiant dispersion?

It runs less flame in fireplace mode,so at best would be like a wood stove hot but burning on low.But my cabin is small, wouldn't do well in that mode in big house.Oh,but I do have to cut open bags, dump them in and turn up t-stat.:D

With the pellet stove there's a little more tinkering around , you have the bi weekly or weekly quick cleaning = 15 to 30 minutes depending on your stove and once a year deep cleaning of maybe 2 hrs or more depending again on the stove and how fuzzy you are. Also you need to become very familiar with the mechanical parts in case the stove acts up and you need to figure out what the problem is . I recommend the Quadra Fire Classic bay 1200 , big stove throws out 40 - 50 thousands BTUs easy to clean and plenty of room to work on .:campfire:

I clean mine every month or two. My furnace normally gets one or two light cleanings a year (15-20 minutes), but it has a self cleaning burn pot.

My upstairs stove gets the pot scraped about once a week (20 seconds) and I clean it once a month (15-20 minutes). But we barely use it now. Mainly just use the pellet furnace and woodstove.

And some pellet stoves have a lot of Radiant heat, some have very little.

But they are 100% easier than woodstoves. Set the state, add Pellets, and relax. Then just add a bag or two a day (depending on stove size, house size, and temp you want).

I'd take pellet any day over Wood. So much easier in my opinion

Thanks DexterDay . If'n I were to get one, it would have to have the big radiant heat option!

Then what would you call it if it were in a garage workshop? "Lab on a slab"?

There is a couple non electric pellet stoves. Then a couple only rely on electric for the auger (natural draft units) and maybe the convection blower

I can post links tomorrow , but Wiseway and Breckwell are a couple that have units that require little to no electricity
