Thanks! I cut up some 3" angle iron to go with the rustic look. Was going to paint it black but I loved the look of the unfinished steel so I just clear coated it.
My coworker wanted a country gift for her sister for Christmas. She kinda gave me an idea and said run with it.
Great thread Greenstick! Pre-dates my sign up, but glad you added to it Some beautiful work with the old wood, and several others joined in to add theirs- just awesome I won't mention the amount of barn or old rough sawn lumber still awaiting usage in my basement....
I epoxied decorated jars to a piece of shiplap siding I got off a barn. Put hangers on back and wala. She loved it and is not sure she wants to give it away. Might make another for her and say Merry Christmas to you both.
look'n good Greensick!...............hmmm...........but where's the classic shelving for your lanterns?.............
Old 040...it is on the way. Just waiting on a couple lanterns to show up so the couple that are starting the collection aren't lonely by themselves.
This is my first attempt at creating old wood. It started off new pine. Then after beating the hell our of it, burning it and a double stain process...
I used if I remember right I will look when I get home first coat clear base driftwood stain. Applied it really splochy and wiped it off. Abuse the wood a little more then english walnut stain over everything. Wipe it off. To accentuate damage I spot stained some more on areas I wanted darker.
Mama Bears birthday today. She was floored and kept saying I love it. The base is from an old sewing machine of her grandmother that her mom learned to sew on. I built the top from old barnwood and dropped a mirror in it. Then got an Aladdin kerosene lamp with an additional electric burner and a hand painted shade.
Looking good Greenstick. I have and use one of those iron bases with a wooden top when I set up at shows. An older man stopped in at my booth and started to tell me a bit about the one I have. He was a collector and knew the model and approximate years of production of the base. He offered to buy it, but it was in our family for a while. I don't have much interest in them, other than being a nice conversation piece. Nice to have family history associated with yours.
I have two old electric Singer machines and my Mom has a treadle. they all work but only the treadle has that nice base under it. Very nice present for Mama Bear.
Greenstick, you were just fashionable before it was popular.... The neighbors barn 1800s was taken down piece by piece, the beams and barn board all went to NYC for . that was 9 months ago...
