I was at the local Blain's Farm and Fleet and scored a gallon of Mystic B/C oil for $5.99. Cases of 4 were $23.96, so same as 4 single gallons.. They had several dozen cases. They also had lots of Oregon B/C oil @ $9.99 a gallon, or Stihl in an orange jug @ 12.99 a gallon... There appeared to be no shortage of B/C oil in Rice Lake, WI.
On the way to the shore yesterday, my wife stoped by TSC and picked up two more gallons. I am now good through 2020
I got a rain check at the local TSC a couple weeks ago for 4 gallons. No call yet. I may pass by today to see if there’s any on the shelf and the rain check process is broken.
Went to check on my rain check Didn’t have the country line, but this. It’s summer grade but seems pretty loose. Tax free weekend here so it was $6/gal and I grabbed two
Was at Wal-Mart this morning and they has their bar oil reduced. Also had bar/chain combos reduced along with the premixed canned fuel. I think that was around $2.50 quart. Never could figure out why they put that stuff on clearance when wood cutting season is coming up.
Probably because to them, OPE season is winding down...gotta make room for the Christmas decorations!
It’s SAE 30 ,so it should be fine for year round use . I kinda like the thinner looking oils more than say ,the thicker Husq.,Stihl stuff . Saws like the mccullochs with impuse driven pumps seem to function better with it .
I haven’t run across an impulse driven oil pump. Never even heard of it. Cool! Manual, manual and auto on the big boys, shaft driven, clutch drum driven, not the impulse. Again, cool!
Was at Lowe's this afternoon. Checked their bar oil supply. Not a gallon in sight, only quarts. Recent tropical storm and tornado may have affected it.
Sounds like you now have an impulse for an impulse, and add it to the collection, brand and color aside.
Most ,if not all ,old Macs ran the bar oil pump off impulse . Some of the old ,U.S. made Poulans had impulse driven bar oil pumps . I see a lot of them as I’m in farm country ,and see saws that are too old to go to a dealer . Pro tip : Farmers are hard on equipment , They also have some interesting ways to “fix “ things .
This is the pump out of a 10-10 ,or PM 700 . But it’s fairly representative of any Mac style pump .The first pic shows the volume adjustment screw on the top of the pump . Out is + ,in is - . That piece of steel is part of what holds it into the saw. Pic two shows the pump piston . It’s a phenolic disc held on the shaft by an O ring . The oil inlet is the small hole top left , outlet top right . pics 3&4 . The guts of the pump . I love the simplicity of the whole thing . P.S. To the OP : SORRY FOR HIJACK OF YOUR THREAD ...
N No worries. Interesting bit of education even though working on saws is not my thing. Seeing an old Mac reminds me of my childhood when dad used his to cut. Fond memories. Any interest in this Nixon ?
