My wife tells me all the time that I'm spoiled if I have the teller look up my account for a deposit. She says that is what deposit slips are for, for the customer/member to fill out and include the account information.
I've been banking since the late 70's and they all expected a slip to be filled out. I've never even thougth about verbally telling them, for security reasons. As far as withdrawing a good chunk of cash - most banks don't keep a large reservoir on hand, just enough for their anticipated daily (or weekly) requirements. They may only get deliveries 1-2 times per week. My local bank (a fairly big bank, but a branch in a small town) requires you call ahead so they make sure they have enough to cover it. It is not that they don't have cash, but they can't deplete their reserves for one customer and not be able to service the rest of their customers. They prefer to deal with bank checks as those are safer. About 2 years ago I was buying a new (to me) vehicle. It was a last second decision so I was unable to call ahead. I got sent to the branch in a larger city in order to take out the amount of cash I wanted. I was the 3rd person to withdraw a chunk of change and depleted their reserves. I also had to sign a waiver that I knew that carrying a large chunk was inherently dangerous and they wouldn't be libel if something happened.
Oh, so you are the one I heard about on the news! Nice knowin ya...try to get the top bunk if ya can!
I have written the acct # on whatever piece of paper I had handy. No pre-made slips anymore. I used to make my own, on the computer, using excel. Then cut them up by hand. But now, I just hand them the bank/atm card.
Branch I use is small enough they know me.. by name heck tellers know my dogs names.. and have their dog cookies ready. landlords get a lot of checks..
Since I've been taking care of the neighbor, he writes me a check for his groceries at least twice a week. Then if there are med pick ups, there is another check (the pharmacy now knows who stuff I'm there for when they see me). I'm in the bank at least once a week because the app can't read his writing. Not the app's fault, his numbers are terrible so you have to look at the written portion and decipher that (his writing is very shaky). So, the tellers have gotten to know me. Still have to fill out a deposit slip then put my debit card in a reader and enter my pin (instead of presenting ID) even if just depositing. Yesterday their reader was rebooting so I had to present my ID. There was also a lady there that was upset that she had to go thru extra steps to deposit cash in someone else's account. IDK if it is a new rule, or whether it has always been like that. Not like I would give out my account number to strangers (she said she was buying someone's trailer, so it wasn't a family member's account).
Aaa bogieb 7 years ago I had to give written permission to have cash deposited into my account I asked why would I not want to accept a deposit?? If it’s a check and it doesn’t clear. Someone to blame If cash and counterfeit bank accepted currency so it their fault cannot deduct so the want to be able to track deposit
I'm lucky to live in a sparsely populated area. I never use a deposit slip. Just drive up to the window (or walk in) and ask them to make a deposit/withdrawal/transfer and it's a done deal! I think I may have used a deposit slip decades ago when I first began banking.....until finally, a teller told me "You know, you don't have to fill out those slips for your business."
I haven't been in a bank for ages, either. Last time few times I've needed to deposit a check I just scanned it with my phone/app.
