A buddy is redoing his living room, and ditching his woodstove for pellet. Said I could have the woodstove. I don't know anything about Baker stoves. I was thinking of putting it in my basement (old stone farmhouse foundation) and burning it during real cold spells to allow radiant heat warm the floors of main living space. There is minimal to no insulation between floor and the basement. I also have a grate in our family room (now sealed) that is about 3' x 2', I could open to allow heat up. Or I could possibly put the stove in my garage. I have an open flue in the chimney from the basement. Garage has nothing. I asked what he wanted and doesn't have an answer. We both figure its probably not worth much. Thoughts?
You see old stuff like that for a couple hundred bucks pretty commonly. It probably would help out during cold snaps... especially if you have a way for the heat to rise (vent hole) and cool air to return (stairwell?) What's up with the 6"-8"(10"?) adapter...bet that didn't draft too well!
I havent seen it in person yet, so I have no idea of what's with the adapter. I can probably score this for a case or 2 of beer, as long as I get it out of his way.
Bakers were made local to us! I’ve used and run 2 different ones and for many years. I still have the most recent in hopes to put it in my garage. Very well made units as long as they weren’t abused (over fired hard). I can’t tell if that’s just sunlight or a white spot (signs it was overheated). If it’s white, use a flashlight and check all the welds inside, especially around the air tubes. That’s a known area of issue. My parents have a Baker insert now and it’s been great for them.
