Home made Apple Pie and Ice Cream is good for you. Right? As long as the pie is warmed up. That is what I thought. Thank you very much!

Don't be fooled. That amount isn't that much. That is the smaller plates in our set. Ya. That's it.

My wife is celiac, she has been GF since she was an infant. She was a "failure to thrive" baby, the DHS threatened to take her away because they thought she was being neglected. Doctors were not much help, her Grandmother figured it out by tracking the foods she would refuse to eat. A tiny bit of gluten causes complete GI evacuation. The whole GF fad has been a boon to her, although many things she doesn't like cause she never had them.

I learned later, the cake was an attempt by the daughter to "butter up" my wife, they are apparently having a disagreement over what is deemed appropriate for the prom dress.:picard:

I didn't realize it went back that far. It's like the peanut allergy, I don't remember anyone having that when I was a kid.

Pretty amazing that the Grandmother was able to pinpoint the problem, as this was in an era when food labelling was not required. She (the Grandmother) logged the foods and then wrote away to companies to get ingredient lists.

Its my understanding that the peanut problem is a true allergy, and can be lethal if the anaphylactic shock of the reaction is severe enough.

The gluten problem is not an allergy and is not likely to be lethal. It can be an intolerance, like dairy (lactic) intolerance where there can be a wide range of severity, or Celiac disease, which is a genetic disease where people lack completely the enzyme to digest gluten. Repeated exposure to gluten for either type can cause the vili in the intestine to degrade, they actually start to rot, as the undigested gluten just sits in the gut and ferments, and this can cause other digestive issues. Some people have interpreted this as gluten is a "bad" thing and should be eliminated from your diet as part of a "healthy" lifestyle, which is not really true unless you have an intolerance to the gluten.

Being in NH, I miss Mass bakeries.....not even close up here. When I visit Dad, a stop at an Italian bakery is usually in the plan
